Music: Stephen Sanchez “Be More” My Mona Lisa painting is composed of 6,912 individual blocks painted with a square brush I created out of a Home Depot floor cleaning sponge and a block of wood. This is the transition from the painting to the guide to the final painting (or print considering on how you look at it). The entire project took between 80 and 100 hours to complete. I can still remember getting lost as I counted along the squares to determine which value to use in each corresponding space on the canvas. I do not like this very large, gridded, and color coded guide more than the finished painting; but I care for it just as deeply. When I am afforded more wall space I will eventually frame and hang the works side by side…13,824 blocks together.
