Katy Perry
"I kissed a phallic shaped rocket and I liked it".
I was so thrilled that the philanthropist Jeff Bezos was funding an all female crew to explore space to further our knowledge of the cosmos and make scientific breakthroughs that will help all of humanity across this troubled globe. Oh wait, it was just a commercial stunt for multi-millionaires and billionaires to go on joyrides for Earth selfies?
When will America wake up! When will we realize that it's not red vs. blue, Democrat vs. Republican, black vs. white, or even gay vs. straight. It's the ultra rich vs. the rest of us. It is the haves vs. the have nots.
One private jet flight can use as much carbon as a normal person will use in their entire lifetime. 10% of all flights in the U.S.A. are now private jets. And did you know that the taxes we pay for our cramped together air buses help subsidize the taxes the rich "should" be paying to the FAA for their private flights?
Reagan began the assault on the middle class with his tax cuts for the wealthy. Bush further accelerated the attack with his tax cuts to funnel money to the rich. Trump's tax cuts put the nails into the coffins of the middle and lower classes.
My painting is not about Katy Perry. She seems like a perfectly lovely person and I have some of her music. I heard she married Legalos...and that's pretty cool (William Shatner also unwittingly allowed himself to be used by an oligarch and there's a video showing that exact moment).
This work is about a U.S. tax code which allows some of its citizens to become so rich they can build their own spaceships! And I don't believe Ms. Perry knew that she and the other women were only making a commercial for a greedy billionaire who wants to build a space tourist business for the elite. But I do know that the news media who broke away from regular programming to run a 30 minute infomercial for a powerful billionaire, "did" know what they were doing...or at least their corporate masters did.
We love these dystopian TV shows were the super rich elite lord over the impoverished multitudes until a lone hero rises up to smash the oligarchy. Well, that's our actual reality...but without a happy ending.
Now it could all be solved in a hot minute. Simply impose a wealth tax on those with 10 million or more in assets (stocks would count too). And have SSN taxes resume after 1 million to ensure no one starves to death in retirement. We could stop the transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top...but will we...or just spend more time idolizing and fawning over the rich?
