Hands
Music: The Bangles “Hazy Shade of Winter” This is my painting of M.C. Escher’s lithograph of hands drawing themselves. For me, it has always evoked my feelings about the concept of infinity. In math and physics infinity usually means there is something wrong with the current set of equations. It is an error in a way. In the context of “real” numbers, infinity is a flawed concept. It doesn’t mean really big or too many to imagine. It means “we don’t know.” It is actually just as accurate for a child to taunt “infinity plus one” as it is for an astrophysicist to say the universe is infinite. But mainly, when I think of infinity, I think of time. A concept either bound to our three-dimensions as in Einstein’s space time or possibly as the only thing that lets us make sense of a universe which might be a singularly giant quantum wave function finitely or infinitely unfolding. I would just like more time to get shit done.
