Harry Potter Pot
This is my Harry Potter Pot. His portrait is based, not upon the movies which I love, but on the U.S. book covers. The lid represents the Horcrux Voldemort inadvertently created when attempting to kill Harry as a child. When I read the books I keep the lid on until I reach the moment in the 7th novel when it becomes appropriate to remove it. As I am currently not reading the books, the lid sits besides. At the end of the video is my portrait vase of Severus Snape from Harry Potter. I love the tragedy, pathos, courage, and ultimate redemption and nobility of this character. And I love Alan Rickman. Now I don’t picture him when I read the books; but I could not imagine any other taking on this role. But I made a mistake when I glazed him. I wanted to hint at the jealousy he harbored against James Potter who, in Severus’s mind, stole his beloved Lily. I added just a few drops of dark green glaze to the white I used for his face and it fired to a perfect mint color. I still love my Severus Pot; but as a perfectionist, I cannot shake that memory of when I first lifted the lid of the kiln. Snape’s redemption lay in his sacrifice for the memory and life of Lily. My own redemption lays somewhere else.
