Music: Enya “Only Time” This was the most emotional painting commission I have ever had. Friends of this woman’s family hired me to make a portrait of this young woman for her parents. Apparently, on her way home from work she had stopped at a fast food restaurant to use the restroom. Once inside a stranger followed her into the bathroom and murdered her. It was one of those random tragic, horrific moments that too often occur within one’s lives. I was so frightened as I painted her that her family may not like the portrait. I also could not shake the image of the tragedy that had befallen her as I worked. The photograph I worked from was small and I wish I had a better picture of the finished piece. It’s so strange but I have no memory of my patrons picking up the painting nor can I remember ever hearing the reaction of her family after they had seen it. But the memory and feelings I had while painting her (where I stood in the room, even the blank part of a wall I would stop and stare at while working) are as fresh as they were the days I painted her.
