Modern Man
This is actually a reproduction of a painting I made in 1996. I titled the work "Modern Man" and it's about how mankind is destroying the very environment in which it depends upon and lives within. I was a Marine Science Technician in the military and took a year of Physical Geography in college and even lowly me could easily recognize that burning billions of tons of coal, gas, and oil would quickly (in geological terms) poison and overwhelm our closed environmental system. It wasn't Al Gore who sounded the alarm over the dangers of fossil fuels to our climate. In 1896 Svante Arrhenius published the paper "On the Influence of Carbonic Acid in the Air Upon the Temperature of the Ground" in Philosophical Magazine. He was the first to calculate how human carbon dioxide emissions would warm the Earth through the greenhouse effect. In 1954 Western Oil and Gas funded a Caltech study to determine the detrimental effects of fossil fuels and in 1968 the American Petroleum Institute commissioned the Stanford Research Institute to study the issue. Their report "warned that significant temperature changes and severe environmental damage were almost certain to occur by the year 2000 if fossil fuel usage continued to grow." Of course none of the commissioned studies by the fossil fuel industry were ever made public. We are now entering the period where our climate is showing signs of destabilization. Extreme temperature swings, increased floods and droughts, and super storms are now becoming commonplace. We all see it, we are all experiencing it. But the billionaire (soon to be trillionaire) class are still doing everything they can to keep the politicians in power who pretend climate change is a hoax. The environmental damage their data centers will do is but the icing on the cake. But they are desperate to quickly construct them so they can fully implement an Ai monitored police surveillance state. These oligarchs mistakenly believe that their armageddon bunkers, private jets and islands, and super yachts will somehow protect them, and provide them shelter and safe haven, as the Earth's environment degrades beyond human sustainability. We're all in this together and no, it's not individual actions like recycling which might provide for our salvation but a collective rejection of the oligarchy and political system which is driving our species towards suicide and ultimate extinction.
