This is my painting of my friends Mike and Franny’s daughter Sunny.
I used the grid method of reproduction (which I taught to over 8,000 students) to correctly and proportionally draw the shapes of my subject onto the canvas. It is a drawing method utilized by Leonardo, Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Degas, and countless other artists. The method trains your eyes to see shape and spatial relationships as it also helps to develop the hand-eye coordination necessary to create.
I wish I had developed techniques to apply to my own lifestyle which were as effective as the ones I developed for my art and teaching. Like many other times, I lost the connection I had with my really good friend Mike when he and Franny moved to New York. As I have stated before: I am almost as bad at being a far distance friend, as I am at being a near distance acquaintance.
And almost no babies were eaten during the making of this painting or video.
