The Drawing Lesson
Music: Red Hot Chili Peppers “Can’t Stop” This is a portrait I made in 2011 of one of my best friend’s two children. I chose Red Hot Chili Peppers for the music because my friend likes them so much. Apparently, lyrics were not available which is just as well, because I have no idea what the singer was saying. It was difficult to get a good photograph of the work because of the glare from the shiny dark background. This was before I became aware of polarized camera filters, which is amazing because I had searched the internet for two decades for tips of how to eliminate glare! The little boy’s drawing is based on an earlier painting of mine called “Not Bullets, Butterflies;” which was about peace. That painting was one I wish I had never sold; and this painting was a gift. So I’m either 1 for 2, 2 for 2, or 0 for 2 for these two paintings…depending on how you look at things.
